What I learned from my first Game Jam

Taking part in my first game jam was both daunting and incredible. I didn't expect to come out of it as a finalist, in 5th place for community favourite. Very glad I took the jump and went for it.

There's a difference In knowing something and applying it, here are 3 things I learned and put into practice.

🕹️ Finished beats perfect

I’ve always struggled with overthinking and perfectionism, but getting something finished - though unpolished felt amazing. It taught me how important it is to prioritise and move on.

💬 Collaboration and feedback are vital

Teammates, play testers and feedback are sooooo important, different perspectives create a better experience as others notice ways to improve the game that I didn't see.

🌱 The biggest win: Confidence

Before this jam, I doubted my ability to finish a game. Now I’m excited to work more on the project and what comes after. I’m really grateful for everyone who played A Nameless Place, shared feedback, or just encouraged us along the way.

We’re planning to keep developing the game and I’m taking all these lessons forward with me.

If you've yet to play the jam version, play it here, and let us know your thoughts, feedback helps a lot. Follow the page or join our Discord to stay updated.
